Land and the Israeli – Palestinian Conflict

The paper starts with a brief history overview of land in Palestine, through the Ottoman period, British mandate period, 1948 war and the geopolitical changes, the 1967 war and the Israeli occupation of the West Bank and Gaza Strip, the peace accords, and post Oslo. The paper then discusses Palestine land tenure system and its vulnerability, by covering the topics of land registry, land fragmentation and inheritance, and tenure security. In addition, the paper talks about land as a source of violence and conflict, mainly talking about the Israeli occupation and land expropriation and the demographic manipulation. The paper also discusses land as a means of to address structural issues.
